BEETHOVEN BONANZA

One of the greatest masters of all time, Ludwig van Beethoven wrote with equal brilliance and power in many different forms, from symphony to solo sonata. This program presents some earlier chamber music selections including his famed “Gassenhauer Trio”, selections from his Septet Op. 20 that he later arranged for the same clarinetist who inspired the Gassenhauer, along with selections from his violin and cello sonatas.

AMERICAN TRIBUTE

During this Patriot’s Day / Boston Marathon weekend, we honor the victims and families of the April 15, 2013 Marathon bombing by presenting an All-American program featuring music composed in the United States by Boston’s own Leonard Bernstein and Howard Frazin, along with composers not native to the United States, but who found a safe home here.

Howard Frazin

Composer Howard Frazin’s music has been performed worldwide, including festivals at Tanglewood, Aspen, Banff, Rockport, Monadnock, Bowdoin, Kneisel Hall, and Yellow Barn.  Commissions include from Triple Helix, A Far Cry, Claremont Trio, Boston Classical Orchestra, Fromm Foundation, World-wide Concurrent Premieres, and Andover Chamber Players. The Dallas Morning News praised his piano trio as “... [a] genuinely touching triptych, which wastes not a note,” and the Boston Globe described his ISAAC oratorio as “...clear in design and Brittenesque in texture ... ingeniously scored...[with an] almost unbearable poignancy.” Mr. Frazin is WordSong’s co-founder/Artistic Director, and teaches composition at the New England Conservatory. His music has been recorded on MSR Classics and Ravello Records and is published by Peters Editions.
